In the tech world, the name Google is almost synonymous with search engines. However, recent events have shown that this tech giant is not only leading in the search domain but also exerting significant influence in other areas. Despite multiple antitrust lawsuits filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ), Google seems undeterred and is even more actively trying to close off the open web.

These moves by Google have sparked widespread debate and controversy. On one hand, supporters argue that Google has the right to protect its business interests, especially in an increasingly competitive environment. They believe that Google's efforts are aimed at ensuring a consistent and secure user experience. On the other hand, critics accuse Google of using its market dominance to restrict competitors' entry, thereby harming consumer rights and stifling innovation.

Take Google's Privacy Sandbox project as an example. This initiative aims to phase out third-party cookies through a series of technical measures to enhance user privacy. While this move does indeed improve user privacy to some extent, it has also been criticized for Google's attempt to solidify its dominant position in the advertising market. The elimination of third-party cookies will make it difficult for smaller advertisers to access user data, thus weakening their competitiveness. This undoubtedly exacerbates unfair competition in the market.

Moreover, Google has introduced several new features and services to further strengthen its control over its ecosystem. For instance, Google Maps not only provides navigation services but also integrates various functionalities such as restaurant reservations and hotel bookings. This integrated service model makes users more dependent on Google and reduces the survival space for other competitors. Such practices have drawn attention from regulatory bodies and raised concerns among consumers.

Despite this, Google remains steadfast in its stance, asserting that these measures are intended to enhance user experience and protect user privacy. A Google spokesperson has publicly stated, “Our goal is to provide the best internet experience for users while ensuring their privacy is fully protected.” However, this claim has not entirely dispelled people's doubts.

In this era of controversy, every move Google makes is closely watched. Regardless of the ultimate outcome, the competition over the open web and market fairness will continue. We can only wait and see whether Google will maintain its leading position in this game or be forced to make changes.
